How would you price art?
I have recently been involving myself in a bit of culture (and by that I mean getting off my lazy bottom and attending some exhibitions) and I am finding out that prices in art are very vast. I try to understand how the artists manage to price them, but I never quite get it. Do you ask yourself how good a painting is by your own standard? or by a worldly standard? should you compare yourself to other artists? or should you maybe consider the time you have spent on it?
I have never had the occasion to sell my art and now that the occasion has finally arrived I have no idea how I should price it. I sometimes think that the price of art reflects how pretentious the artist is, which is hopefully not the case with most artists and certainly not in mine as I am conscious that I am still learning and have gotten over the fact that I am not quite Caravaggio. Have you ever had the occasion of selling something? If yes, on what criteria did you price it? If no, how would you? If you ever bought art or are an art lover, what would you say is too much?
